On January 19th, we gathered to celebrate individuals who have shown outstanding dedication to addressing global challenges and fostering positive change within their communities. This year, in the fifth citizen awards, we recognized their commitment across five distinct categories to amplify their voices and embrace the transformative potential of collective action.
Nelly Cheboi is honored with the Educator Award for her exceptional efforts in using recycled technology to establish computer labs in African schools. Her work not only supports students’ academic development but also aims to reduce unemployment rates.
Motaz Azaiza, a Palestinian photojournalist, received the Communicator Award for transparently reflecting the realities of Palestinians through real-time updates from Gaza, reaching over 18 million followers on social media.
Aditi Mayer, a young activist, is recognized with the Youth Award for her impactful advocacy in sustainable fashion. She sheds light on textile worker conditions and addresses global disparities in the industry through her influential website.
Dr. Ghassan Abu-Sittah, specializing in medical interventions in conflict zones, is honored with the World Citizen of the Year Award for his dedicated work on health consequences in war zones, including Yemen, Iraq, Syria, South Lebanon, and most recently, Gaza.
Chef José Andrés, founder of World Central Kitchen, is acknowledged with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his lifelong commitment to providing food support in war, crisis, and disaster areas, including post-earthquake relief efforts in Turkey.
