TRT World Citizen Awards 2024

 

 

On January 17th, we gathered to celebrate individuals making a lasting impact on global issues. In its sixth edition, the TRT World Citizen Awards honored changemakers across six categories, including a special recognition. This prestigious event amplifies their voices and showcases the power of collective action in shaping a better world.

The awards ceremony was held on the 17th of January 2025 in Istanbul.
 
Educator Awardee
Rana Dajani

Rana Dajani, founder of We Love Reading, has worked to enhance the educational opportunities and social status of women and children in her region. Her program fosters a love for reading in young children, strengthening their language skills, improving academic performance, and nurturing emotional intelligence.

Communicator Awardee
Azima Dhanjee and Arhum Ishtiaq 

Azima Dhanjee and Arhum Ishtiaq, founders of ConnectHear, developed an initiative dedicated to facilitating the lives of individuals with hearing impairments and ensuring their full inclusion in society. Through their inspiring efforts, they have empowered the hearing-impaired community to communicate independently while raising awareness about accessibility.

Youth Awardee
Hélène Ba

Hélène Ba, founder of Basket For All, has been committed to inclusivity and equality in sports. She actively addresses discrimination against female athletes in France, particularly the restrictions imposed on hijab-wearing athletes in professional teams ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Her work continues to shape critical discussions on diversity and representation in sports.

World Citizen of the Year Awardee
Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi

Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, a dedicated advocate for Palestinian rights, devoted her life to raising awareness and fighting for justice. She was fatally shot by Israeli Defense Forces during a protest in Nablus on September 6, 2024. Her unwavering commitment to humanitarian causes and social justice continues to inspire movements for peace and equality worldwide.

Lifetime Achievement Awardee
Steve Sosebee

Steve Sosebee, founder of the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) and Heal Palestine, has committed his life to humanitarian aid and medical support. Through his initiatives, he has saved thousands of children’s lives in conflict zones, providing them with essential medical care. His unwavering commitment serves as a global example of solidarity and humanitarian values.

TRT Special Awardee
Amani Ballour

Amani Ballour, a doctor and hospital director during the Syrian war, demonstrated extraordinary efforts in providing medical aid under extreme conditions. She tirelessly treated the wounded and supported civilians in dire circumstances. Despite immense hardships, she remains a symbol of hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
